Essential Settling-In Tips Await You Below!

Master Your Move!

Our first settling-in session, affectionately known as Talk About My Child Day, lasts up to three hours and provides a dedicated opportunity for parents to share meaningful information about their child before leaving them into our care. This helps us gain a deeper understanding of their routines, preferences, and needs, enabling us to tailor our approach from the very beginning.

The second session, My First Independent Day at Nursery, lasts up to four hours and allows children to explore, play, and interact independently while still being supported by our nurturing team. This gradual introduction helps build their confidence and sense of security.

Our "Settling In Boost" sessions, comprising the 3rd and 4th settling-in sessions, are designed to provide additional support for children who may find it particularly challenging to adjust to nursery life. Lasting up to 2 hours each, these sessions are optional and available upon request from parents. They aim to create a more personalised experience, helping children build confidence and a sense of security in their new surroundings, ultimately easing the transition into nursery.

At Renaissance Nurseries, we recognise that the settling-in process is an important experience for both children and their parents. To support a smooth transition, we offer an optional Stay and Play session for up to two hours, giving babies the chance to become familiar with their new surroundings while parents remain close by.

Our aim is to make the settling-in process as reassuring, positive, and enjoyable as possible for every child and family joining our Family!

Mastering Settling In: Child's Success!

Settle In Smoothly!

You can help your child’s transition by:

  • Bringing photos to help them feel connected.
  • Speaking positively about nursery before arrival.
  • Avoiding showing worry or hesitation.
  • Giving a confident kiss/goodbye, then leaving promptly.
  • Allowing your child to walk to staff independently.
  • Reading our procedures and FAQs on the website.
  • Keeping journeys to nursery calm and positive.
  • Letting staff manage any drop-off tantrums, as prolonged parental involvement can make settling harder.

These small steps help children feel secure and confident as they adjust to their new routine.

Our team is fully trained to support children who may find settling in difficult, so we do not call parents if a child becomes upset.

We encourage parents to create a personalised “My Special Photo Album” to help familiarise their child with our nursery. This can include photos of loved ones, pets, and meaningful places to provide comfort and familiarity.

Comforters

Upon enrolment, children may bring a special toy for up to two weeks to support settling in. To encourage confidence and independence, all comfort items, such as pacifiers, blankets, and personal toys are stored in the child’s bag, tray or peg during the day. We ask parents to remove pacifiers before arrival and keep soft toys at home. Our staff use a range of effective techniques to help children settle smoothly into nursery.
