At Renaissance Nurseries, we love bringing our children, families and nursery community together to celebrate, learn and create special memories.

Our Spring Theme is:
Ice, Water, and Snow
This term, our children will embark on an exciting journey of discovery as we explore the fascinating themes of Ice, Water and Snow.
Through hands-on experiments, sensory play, creative activities, stories and outdoor exploration, children will have opportunities to investigate how water changes, discover the wonders of the natural world and explore winter through their own curiosity and imagination.
These engaging experiences will encourage children to ask questions, make observations, experiment with new ideas and develop their understanding through play. Along the way, we will support important skills in communication, creativity, problem-solving and early scientific thinking.

Winter Safety Tips for Our Little Explorers
As the colder weather arrives, winter brings plenty of exciting opportunities for children to explore, discover and enjoy the outdoors. At Renaissance Nurseries, we want our children to experience all the fun the season has to offer while remaining warm, comfortable and safe. This section provides families with helpful guidance on preparing children for colder days, from choosing suitable winter clothing and footwear to keeping little ones comfortable during outdoor play and travelling to and from nursery. With a little preparation, children can continue to enjoy fresh air, outdoor adventures and wonderful winter learning experiences—whatever the weather!
Dressing for the Cold
Choosing the right clothing can help keep children warm, dry and comfortable while they enjoy outdoor play during the colder months. We recommend dressing children in comfortable layers that can be easily added or removed as the temperature changes. A soft base layer, a warm jumper or fleece, and a waterproof coat provide practical protection against cold, wind and rain.
Please also remember to provide a warm hat, gloves or mittens and suitable waterproof footwear for chilly or wet days. Clearly labelling your child’s belongings with their name will also help us make sure everything finds its way home. With the right clothing, children can continue to explore, play and enjoy the outdoors comfortably throughout the winter season.
Safe Travel and Mobility
Winter weather can make everyday journeys more challenging, so a little extra preparation can help keep the whole family safe when travelling to and from nursery. When travelling by car, check that your vehicle is ready for colder conditions and consider carrying useful winter essentials such as warm blankets, a first-aid kit and an ice scraper. Children should always travel in an appropriate child car seat or restraint, correctly fitted for their age, height and needs.
When walking, choose sturdy footwear with good grip, take extra care on icy or slippery surfaces and encourage young children to stay close to an adult. Allowing a little extra time for your journey can also help avoid rushing when conditions are wet, icy or snowy. By planning ahead and taking extra care, we can help make winter journeys safer and more comfortable for everyone.
Snow Play Safety
Snowy days can provide wonderful opportunities for children to explore, play and enjoy the outdoors. With appropriate supervision and a few simple precautions, children can experience the excitement of winter while staying safe.
Encourage children to enjoy gentle snow play in safe, open areas away from roads, vehicles, frozen water and other potential hazards. Adults should supervise activities closely and remind children not to throw hard-packed snow or ice, particularly towards another person’s face.
For sledging, always choose a safe, suitable slope away from roads, trees, fences and other obstacles, with plenty of space to slow down safely. Young children should always be closely supervised by an adult. By combining fun with sensible precautions, we can help our little explorers enjoy the magic of winter safely and confidently.
Making Snowmen and Winter Crafts
Winter provides wonderful opportunities for children to explore their creativity and imagination, both indoors and outdoors. From building snowmen and exploring snowy surroundings to creating beautiful winter-inspired artwork, there are plenty of ways to make the season exciting and memorable. When the snow arrives, children can enjoy building snowmen and creating their own snowy masterpieces in safe areas away from roads and other hazards, with appropriate adult supervision.
Indoors, why not continue the winter fun with creative activities such as making paper snowflakes, winter pictures, sensory creations or decorations using recycled and natural materials? These simple activities encourage creativity, fine motor skills, imagination and an appreciation of the changing seasons. Most importantly, enjoy exploring the magic of winter together and creating special memories along the way!
