Our Key Person Approach

Key-Person

What is the Key-Person Approach?

Every child deserves to be unique to someone, and the Key-Person Approach recognises this. The Key-Person Approach is one of the Vital Principals in the Early Years Foundation Stage and is now a Statutory Requirement of the Framework. It is a reciprocal relationship between a member of staff, an individual child and their family. It provides the child with a sense of security so that they feel confident to explore their world and form other relationships. The Keyperson has an ''invisible elastic thread'' of attachment to their crucial child, holding them in mind throughout their time at nursery. It does not mean they 'shadow'' the child.

Our Approach

Every child is allocated a key person from their first sessions with us.

This key person could sometimes change as we consider whom the child is bounding with.

In our settings, we encourage all children and staff to play together. This is why we provide an open-plan environment for children to Play and Learn. We encourage children to build strong relations with all our staff. At drop-off and pick-up times, other staff could welcome your child. This person will pass on any information parents share to the child's key person. Nevertheless, if parents need to speak to their child's key person in person, they can ask for them or arrange a meeting at their convenience. hips

The child's "key person" and or "special other" will be available to discuss the child's progress in detail during parents' meetings/meet the key person. So please remember to book some time off work to come in. Please speak to the management team if you want to meet your child's key person outside the pre-arranged meeting days and times (please refer to our online Calendar). They can check staff shifts and arrange for your child's key person to come out of the room for a chat in the office or to give you a phone call.
